We did a big company-wide retro with our employees where we asked why Fatman is a good place to work. In this survey, two things rose above the others. Those were self-development and a community atmosphere. Other really good things were internationality, youth, flexibility and working in a growing and developing company.

We believe that with good attitude, open interaction and an encouraging atmosphere, we achieve the best results and are able to surprise our customers positively every day.

International work environment

We have people from nine different nationalities in our workplace and you can hear nine different languages with us. We use English as our working language.

Regular training

Once a month, we hold company-wide development days, focusing on the development of ourselves and the company as a whole. Often after these days we go after work or we may even go for example to ice swimming

insurance coverage

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. In basketball, the knee may bend or in volleyball, the shoulder may go dislocated. On the way, travel flu may surprise you. We offer our employees comprehensive insurance coverage for life surprises.

Office

In August 2019, we moved into the renovated Säterinportti office space. We have more than 1,000 square meters at our disposal and it is possible to work even while sitting on a swing. The heart of our office is our large living room where we attend tight Playstation matches. When you are thirsty, you can get soda from the fridge and the brain is powered by nuts and fruits.

gym

We have at our disposal a completely renovated gym with group exercise classes. Some of us start the working day with exercise and others end the working day with brisk exercise.

Events

In the spring, we solve with the help of athletics which of our employees is the fastest and strongest. In the fall, we use football to find out the ball handling skills of our staff. At least once a year, our office has LANs, and then our office takes over various console but also board games. A sleeping bag should be brought along as these games are played throughout the weekend.

A Jovial and multi culture environment along with exciting IT work in .Net and latest technologies (Docker, TypeScript, Angular, Micro frontends, Azure etc.). My name is Alex and I work as a Software Developer for maintenance resource planning in Fatman. I enjoy challenging tasks often concerning new technologies that arise in our work process, the latest example being a new OpenAPI as a microservice. I feel the value of my work as I see how it helps our customers, thousands of field and office workers, do their job effectively. Skimming through the helpdesk tickets I can see by various customer questions that their business processes are heavily based around our software including my own work. I love that we have small teams with Products Owners, helpdesk and QA for close communication while we have company-wide fun events such as DevDays.

Olen työskennellyt Fatmanilla ohjelmistokehittäjän roolissa vuoden 2017 alusta saakka. Minulle Fatman on toiminut loistavana ensimmäisenä it-alan työpaikkana. Parasta yrityksessä on sen huikea kansainvälinen ja läheiseksi muodostunut työporukka, jonka tukeen on aina
ongelmatilanteissa voinut luottaa. Työtehtävät yrityksessä ovat mukavan monipuolisia sillä ohjelmistomme vastaa kiinteistö- ja sopimushallinnan tarpeisiin hyvin laajasti. Viime aikoina yhä enemmän kuvioihin tulleet teknologiat kehityksen aallonharjalta pitävät hommat kehittäjän näkökulmasta sekä mielenkiintoisina että tarpeeksi haastavina. Sometimes we have intense discussions in our weekly grooming sessions where software developers evaluate upcoming tasks. It’s fine to disagree on issues as long as it’s done using professional style.

Work as a team

We work together towards a common goal. Everyone needs to take responsibility and offer help with housework when needed.

We aim to ensure that there is always more than one person involved when we do our work tasks. Then there is always someone who can help if something unexpected happens.

Examples of how we do it:

Once a month we have an info session where we share our latest financial figures with the whole company. After each development sprint we have a retro meeting where we discuss what we learned over the last two weeks.

Every month we get together for internal training day where we share knowledge and learn something new. We also actively share eBooks and other learning material inside the company.
