Fatman’s history.

Fatman Oy

Fatman Logo

Fatman was originally established as a service company in the 1990s. In the beginning our company provided maintenance services, quality assessments and energy efficiency reports. However company founder Kari Hein had visions for the future and how traditional maintenance resource planning on paper would quickly move into computer applications. First client software for maintenance resource planning, Infomaster, was released before Windows95.

In the beginning of 21st century browser-applications started to take place on the market. Fatman started to develop a new version of the maintenance resource application. Netmaster maintenance resource planning software was one of the most modern applications on the market when it was launched. It had SMS-support for fieldworkers and many advanced features which started to change the whole digitalization of the business. First browser-based contract management application, eCenter, was also released.

In the 2010s mobile devices started to rapidly become common on the field. Fatman started once again a new evolution of its software, a HTML5-based application, Fatman Frame. Frame is currently used by thousands of users on the field and just recently all contract management applications have also been converted to this modern web-application family.

Early years

The story of Fatman begins in North America where Kari Hein gained knowledge of real estate markets. Kari returned to Finland in the late 1980s and brought ideas for new and innovative tools for managing real estates with him.

The company was founded soon after this (in 1991) when Kari started to fulfill his vision. According to the official explanation the name of the company comes from Facility Technical Management but there are rumors that both Kari’s physical appearance as well as the popular TV series Jake and the Fatman might have impacted the chosen name.

People who worked in the real estate industry in the 1990s might remember Fatman’s first software products such as InfoMaster and NetMaster. These were some of the most advanced maintenance book programs of their time. In addition to software products, Fatman was also offering professional services such as condition assessments and real estate tax consulting.

New era

In 2016 Kari’s son Karl Hein took over the company and started to look for people with competence to take Fatman to the next level as a software company. In late 2016, a new CEO joined the company together with a new head of technology unit.

This launched Fatman’s transition into a pure software company that outsources professional services to its partner network and focuses only on software development.

A modern software company with applications that have the “best before” date far away in the future was created.
